Tent City?
July 9th, 2008 categories: Downtown St Petersburg
Yesterday the Heritage Hotel in downtown St Petersburg was tented for termites, as was the adjacent Hammerhead Grille. Seeing a house tented is not an uncommon sight, but when large buildings are tented it catches your attention. I remember back when the Vinoy Hotel was tented - that was a huge project! This morning the tents were gone, so it’s good I took the photo yesterday. Click on the photo to enlarge it.

Governor proposes at Bayfront Tower
July 4th, 2008 categories: Bayfront Tower
Florida governor Charlie Crist maintains his residence at Bayfront Tower condominium in downtown St Petersburg. Yesterday he made news by formally proposing to his girlfriend, Carole Rome - and where did he propose? At Bayfront Tower! It’s likely that the wedding (no date announced yet) will be at the First United Methodist Church here in St. Petersburg. Crist, a prospect for vice president for McCain, had this to say: “I’m very, very happy. I love her.” Rome is likely to change the frugal governor - it remains to be seen if they move to a larger condo at Bayfront Tower or buy a larger waterfront home. Governor Charlie Crist is very visible in St. Petersburg, and very approachable.

Frequently I’ll see sayings and poems chalked on the 2nd St N sidewalk between my office and Starbucks - apparently many of the chalkworks are done by Jacob Cristiano. Some of the Summer Fellows at Poynter Institute have done a multimedia post where you can see some of his chalks and hear one of his poems.

Teardown Chronicle - Day 11 (15)
The recently poured foundation slab is curing. There was activity on the site today, though - the survey crew was there making a new survey to be sure that the proper setbacks were met and that the slab is at the proper elevation. It’s certainly wise to do this now rather than waiting for the house to be built and then discovering an encroachment or elevation problem.
