The new Salvador Dali Museum was described tonight to a group of 100-150 guests at the Mahaffey Theater in St Petersburg. This spectacular new building designed by Yann Weymouth of Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum architects will be adjacent to the Mahaffey at Progress Energy Center for the Arts overlooking Tampa Bay. While only a few blocks from the existing Salvador Dali Museum, this will double the space, offer better protection against hurricanes, and has a Daliesque exterior. St Petersburg has the largest collection of Dali’s work outside of Spain. Looking at the renderings, my 2 favorite views were inside: one was the spiral staircase that leads to the 3rd floor galleries and then becomes a unique sculpture; the other was the feeling dining inside and looking out at the waterfront through the flowing glass dome that curls around the building. Groundbreaking is scheduled for December 12 and completion is expected in the fall of 2010.

Pinellas County Florida Market Update for October 2008
November 15th, 2008 categories: Market Updates
Though slightly fewer single family homes sold in Pinellas County Florida during October 2008 (523 of them), the last 4 months have varied up and down by only about 2% total, and the number of October single family home sales was up 8% over last October. Pinellas County includes St Petersburg, Clearwater and 22 other municipalities. The median and average prices are still declining, though not as rapidly as earlier. Remember that this is to be expected when there are more people buying at lower price points and does not mean that any particular house is declining this much. We had 33% more homes going to contract in October 08 than a year earlier. We currently have a 17 month supply of homes.
Condos are more plentiful, with a 28 month supply, the same as last monthl. Only 266 condos went to contract in Pinellas Read the rest of this entry »

Miami International Congress
November 4th, 2008 categories: Real Estate News
Yesterday, as part of the Miami International Congress, two busloads of international real estate agents toured some luxury waterfront homes in Miami Beach. One bus was filled with Russian agents – not even 2 seats left for Tami and I. Our bus was nearly half filled with agents from Brazil – the rest of us were from various parts of the US and Canada. The 3 hour tour allowed time for getting to know other agents, learning about their markets and properties, and talking about the wonderful area of St Petersburg, where we have enticing properties and a great lifestyle to offer to their clients. While Tami and I are here marketing properties, learning new skills and exchanging ideas with old and new colleagues, Rob and Amy are hard at work in St Petersburg, serving our clients there.
