Mounted Police in downtown St Petersburg
Today mounted police began patrolling downtown St Petersburg. This is the first day on the job for Brooklyn and Jacob, who came to downtown St Pete from Boston. Boston recently disbanded their mounted police after a century of work.
Their loss is our gain. Brooklyn and Jacob and their police riders are shown here patrolling in Straub Park. I first saw them an hour ago as they passed the St Petersburg Yacht Club where I was having lunch. They’re new, so people coming out of their businesses and condos throughout downtown to see what’s happening. The St Petersburg Police Department has patrolled downtown in cars, on foot, on bicycles and Segways for some years, and the horses are a welcome addition. Just one more happening outside our ALVA International office on Beach Drive in downtown St. Pete.
