Last night we attended the Grand Opening party at Cassis – we were welcomed by managers Jean Thibault & Catherine Thibault and had a magnificent evening. Cassis is part of Ovation, a luxury condominium in downtown St Petersburg, at Beach Drive NE and 2nd Ave NE. There’s seating for about 150 inside and 125 outside. It really reminded me of a brasserie in Paris. Lots of windows to see the outside, and rows of tables under the umbrellas on the sidewalk.
Champagne flowed the entire time – my favorite was champagne with cassis added. Waiters served amuse bouche throughout the evening. My favorite was the scallops that just melted in your mouth. I also loved the tuna tartare and the steak tartare. Other selections were tasty as well: lamb chops, shrimp cocktail and much more.
Chef Jeremy Duclot gave us a wonderful tour of the kitchen, which was enlightening – the long line was gleaming stainless with a line of chefs constantly preparing more tasty morsels for the guests. Fancy ovens, chillers for the glasses, and much more.
All of the owners, managers, chefs and staff were welcoming and made us feel so welcome.
Cassis is open for dinner this week by reservation only and next week will be open for lunch as well. I think this will be a favorite place for us to eat in downtown St Petersburg.
