Cafe 100 in downtown St Petersburg

Cafe 100 downtown St PetersburgCafé 100 in downtown St Petersburg was the first destination on our Mother-Daughter Morning today. Tami and I went over to Cafe 100 on the ground floor of the Northern Trust Building as part of our search for breakfast options in downtown St Pete.  Lonnie greeted us warmly on a cold morning and explained their many choices,  even telling us the portion sizes so we wouldn’t over order. How about a breakfast special?  2 eggs with bacon or sausage plus potatoes or grits or oatmeal, plus toast, plus coffee – all for $3.50. Check out the Café 100 menu online. They open at 7 am. Oh, yes – we had a great meal. You can check reviews at Urban Spoon.

Taste of Pinellas 2009

The waterfront Vinoy Park in downtown St Petersburg is the site for the 2009 Taste of Pinellas, a fundraiser for All Children’s Hospital. It runs from noon to 10 pm today and from noon to 7 pm on Sunday. Admission is free, then you buy tickets at 8 for $5 which you can use for food and drinks from over 40 restaurants. Selections range from 2 to 12 tickets. There’s live music, games, and even fireworks after dark.

Lots of local restaurants are supporting this event and providing favorite foods: Pacific Wave, the Hurricane, Parkshore Grill, Red Mesa, The Pub, Pepins, Snappers and more. Even the soon to open 400 Beach Seafood & Tap House is there, offering Seafood Louie salad and King Crab tails. There’s enough to make your mouth water, from fried chicken to grouper, from jambalaya to vanilla bean creme brulee.

All Children’s Hospital will open their new building later this year.  All Children’s is a regional facility which includes a 97-bed neonatal intensive care unit, a vardiovascular intensive care unit, and a pediatric cancer and blood disorders center. You can watch the progress on this webcam.

A peek in the window at 400 Beach – St Petersburg Florida

Draftsman at workThe workshop at 400 Beach

An early morning glimpse of work beginning in the space at the northeast corner of 400 Beach in downtown St Petersburg.  It’s almost like Santa’s workshop – there are no signs. A drafting table with plans is set up in the unfinished space and pipes are being laid. It must be the beginning of 400 Beach Seafood and Tap House, the new restaurant being developed by Steve Westphal of Parkshore Grill fame.

Scheduled to open on February 15th, 2009, this seafood companion to Parkshore Grill should be an instant success with the same ownership and management, the same sidewalk dining across from the park and Vinoy yacht basin.

Downtown St Petersburg: another view

Downtown St Petersburg experienced as “a tourist” was the topic of a recent blog post by Shakespeare’s Sister. She and her husband spent the weekend at Inn at the Bay and enjoyed downtown St Pete. Moon Under Water and Paciugo’s gelaterie were restaurant stops, and they enjoyed the Saturday morning market, SPIFFS St Petersburg International Folk Fair and the Festival of Speeds. Check her post for impressions and photos.
