Grand Bohemian Residences – St Petersburg, Florida

Grand Bohemian Hotel and Residences - St Petersburg, FloridaThe Grand Bohemian Hotel is a luxury hotelĀ  planned by The Kessler Collection for the northwest corner of 1st Avenue N and 2nd Street N in downtown St. Petersburg. The Kessler properties are known for featuring art throughout.

The Grand Bohemian was originally planned and marketed as The Grand Bohemian Hotel and Residences. Condo residences were priced from $1 Million to $5.5 Million – all of which were designed to be on the top floors of the building, above the hotel, with a separate entrance, though the residents would have use of all the hotel facilities. The number of units changed a few times, reducing as the condo market shrank, until finally the condos were eliminated and the Grand Bohemian is now a proposed hotel without the condo element. Sad – but a reflection on the condo market over the last couple of years.

Grand Bohemian Hotel St Petersburg granted extension

Site of Grand Bohemian Hotel St Petersburg Florida

The St Petersburg City Council has approved an extension for the Kessler Group to start construction on the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown St Petersburg Florida. Kudos to the City Council for recognizing the potential benefit to St Petersburg as well as rewarding the developer for his investment in downtown.

Last week we saw a change to the Grand Bohemian site at the northwest corner of 1st Ave N and 2nd St N – attractive green mesh lines the chain link fence, and landscaping has been put in – palm trees and ground cover. Kudos to Richard Kessler and his company for making this site attractive to passersby during the wait for construction to start.

Grand Bohemian Hotel St Petersburg requests extension

Grand Bohemian St Petersburg Florida

The Kessler Group has asked the City of St Petersburg for a 3 years extension on the start of construction of the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown St Petersburg.

Initially planned as luxury condominiums atop the hotel floors, the number of condos was reduced twice and finally the condo portion was eliminated. Hotel financing world-wide is difficult to obtain right now.

The St Petersburg City Council will meet on March 19th to consider this request. I think it’s in the best interest of downtown for the Council to approve this extension. Mr. Kessler has put a great deal of time and money into this project, and I expect it to be a boon to downtown St Pete.

A sad adieu to Grand Bohemian condos in downtown

Grand Bohemian Condos St Petersburg Florida

The Grand Bohemian condos that were going to be built on top of the luxury Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown Saint Petersburg have officially been withdrawn from the market. This was a new product for St Pete and the timing was wrong as the inventory of new downtown condos has risen.

Hopefully the hotel will still be built. The City of St Petersburg has extended the time for commencement until spring, and we feel it will be a great addition to downtown St Pete.
