Why are Canadians coming to Guanacaste Costa Rica?

Beach along Papagayo Gulf in Guanacaste Costa Rica

Canadians are coming to Guanacaste Costa Rica because of the great travel deals now available. yyzdeals.com shows round trip flights from Toronto to Liberia Costa Rica for $299.00! In 5 to 5-1/2 hours you can be transported from cold Canada to warm Costa Rica. Many condos and homes along the beaches of the Papagayo Gulf are only 30 minutes from the Liberia airport.

It’s not enough, though, for a destination to be affordable. Canadians are coming to Guanacaste, Costa Rica because of the weather, of course, since the days are warm with low humidity. Spend your day relaxing by the pool or at the beach. They’re also coming because the people in Costa Rica are so friendly, helpful and welcoming. After all, Costa Rica has been named the country with the happiest people in the world.

It’s an excellent time to buy real estate in Costa Rica. Buy a vacation home for winters and summers; buy a Costa Rica home or condo as an investment: rent it out if you’re not going to be using it. Buy now for retirement later – or just decide to retire now and enjoy life in the Papagayo Gulf area. Guanacaste offers a wide variety of properties, from a small studio condo to homes over 10,000 sq ft.

Pacifico preparing Lifestyles Building 6

Pacifico Building 6 Preconstruction
Pacifico existing condos

Pacifico in Playas del Coco is preparing Building 6. We’d heard they were going to start construction in February. This morning we saw workers removing the green screen fences that had surrounded the gray buildings. Gray buildings, which are not uncommon in Costa Rica, are buildings that have foundation, structure and walls and may or may not have a roof. There are no windows or doors and no interior finishing. They are named from the color of the concrete building blocks that form the walls.

4 of the 13 Lifestyles condo buildings are gray buildings. When they are finished there will be another pool as well. Building 6 is a three story building that will have 14 condominium residences. Preconstruction prices are as follows:

  • Two 1 bedroom units from $195,000 to $197,500.
  • Six 2 bedroom units from $227,500 to $232,500.
  • Six 3 bedroom units from $270,000 to $275,000.

1/24/12. The green screens are back and new.

Email for more information on pre-construction and resale Pacifico condominiums.

Escape the cold in Costa Rica

Pacifico Beach Club Costa Rica

As another cold spell hits St Pete, you may want to consider escaping to Costa Rica. In Guanacaste, on the northwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica, temperatures have been low 70s in the morning, rising to the low to mid 80s in the afternoon – consistent throughout the year. Low humidity, cooling breeze, no need for a heated pool here. It’s warmer than St Pete in the winter and cooler than St Pete in the summer. So – if you’re tired of the cold, hop on a plane for Liberia Costa Rica (LIR) and half an hour later you can be relaxing in the pool or at the beach.

These condos at Pacifico in Playas del Coco, Guanacaste are in a lush, gated community that’s within walking distance of a supermarket and a variety of restaurants and shops. It’s a 5 minute golf cart ride to the Pacifico Beach Club. Furnished resale condos at Pacifico are available from $215,000. Other properties being offered from less than $100,000 to $1 million plus. Contact us for more information on buying a property in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica living: one of the pleasures of del Pacifico

Barry and Volcano enjoying the Costa Rica beach by del Pacifico

Barry and Volcano enjoying the Costa Rica beach by del Pacifico

Costa Rica is a wonderful country for horses as well as people. Horses are an important part of the lifestyle at del Pacifico on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, by Esterillos – there’s a stable inside the gated development of del Pacifico with places you can ride for hours – including the beach.  I couldn’t resist sharing this photo from Barry Strudwick’s facebook page (click on the photo to go there).
If you want to taste the lifestyle at del Pacifico at one of their weekend Gatherings, contact The Simms Team for more information. Gatherings are scheduled for November 5-9, January 14-18 and February 11-15. Lots, condos and single family homes are available at del Pacifico – not just in drawings, but in reality. You can see and touch the finished homes and judge the quality yourself.

Stylish home in Costa Rica

Contemporary Costa Rica home offers water near and far

Contemporary Costa Rica home in Guanacaste

Typical characteristics we saw in Costa Rica homes were beautiful natural woods, vanishing edge pools, and magnificent views. This contemporary home takes your breath away when you first enter – you’re captivated by the view.

This home is designed for entertaining and enjoying. Balconies on both levels, and a 2 story great room. Each bedroom is en suite and private.

Monte Paraiso is a master planned gated community with a 24 hour guard – 5 minutes from Playa Hermosa, a Blue Flag awarded beach, on a hillside overlooking the Gulf of Papagayo.

15 minutes to lively Playas del Coco with its modern supermarket, restaurants and shops and less than 30 minutes to Liberia International Airport.

Bay Point condos selling in Costa Rica

Bay Point condo balcony

Bay Point condo balcony

One of my favorite condo projects in Guanacaste Costa Rica is Bay Point, a small condo complex in the Vistas del Pacifico development of Playa Panama. We saw an unfurnished first floor unit in January, and it sold soon after; we saw a second (top) floor furnished unit in early July, and it also sold soon after. Both were in the $400,000s. The gated development of Vistas del Pacifico is also the location of my favorite Costa Rica house, which also sold soon after I saw it. The neighborhood is on the side of a mountain overlooking the Papagayo Peninsula, with sunsets over the Pacific. The condos have quality construction, open floor plans, and love of light. Accents include tray ceilings, recessed lighting, travertine flooring, natural stone accents, arched entryways, and balconies or patios. There’s a pool just for the condos, as well as a large infinity edge community pool for the use of both the homes and the condos. It’s 20 minutes by car from Liberia International Airport, 5 minutes from the beaches, and 15 minutes from Playas del Coco.

The Papagayo Peninsula is the home of the Four Seasons resort and the Marina Papagayo. There are lots of real estate opportunities both on the peninsula and near it. You do want to have your own representation, so please contact The Simms Team and we’ll introduce you to a trusted colleague in Costa Rica near the Papagayo Peninsula.

Get help buying real estate in Costa Rica

Costa Rica Sunset from Hotel El Valero

Costa Rica Sunset from Hotel El Valero

It’s SO important to use a reputable real estate agent and a reputable attorney when you buy real estate in Costa Rica. You should know from buying real estate in Florida or other parts of the US that it’s what’s in writing that counts as only what’s in writing is enforceable. That’s even more important when you’re buying real estate in Costa Rica or other countries around the world and it’s especially important when you’re buying land or a pre-construction property that has yet to be built or completed.

What if you’re loooking at raw land and you’re told the lot will have a certain view or elevation or building pad? It had better be written in the contract. What if you’re told Read the rest of this entry »

Vistas del Pacifico Playa Panama Costa Rica

Vistas del Pacifico pool overlooking Papagayo Costa Rica

Vistas del Pacifico pool overlooking Papagayo Costa Rica

Vistas del Pacifico is a gated, hillside community just 25 minutes from the Liberia International Airport in Guanacaste Costa Rica. Enjoy this community pool that overlooks Culebra Bay and the Papagayo peninsula. Choose from a luxury condominium, a luxurious home, or a lot for your dream home – all of them enjoy this pool, though most of the properties have their own private pool as well. Surrounded by nature, you’re just 5 minutes from Playa Hermosa and 10 miles from Playas del Coco.

If you don’t want the waves that attract the world’s surfers, Playa Panama is for you – it’s a great place to swim as the currents aren’t strong and the tide is often low.  The one mile beach is surrounded by atropical forest of sarno, brazilwood and other exotic trees. Several excellent restaurants are close by. Enjoy privacy and natural surroundings that are close to lots of amenities.

Why Costa Rica? from a buyer's perspective

Vistas del Pacifico pool view over Papagayo Peninsula Costa Rica

Vistas del Pacifico pool view over Papagayo Peninsula Costa Rica

Why buy property in Costa Rica? In addition to a great climate (choose the cool mountains or the warm beaches) year round, beautiful scenery, natural preserved areas and great variety, there are the wonderful Costa Rican people, known as Ticos. In general, Ticos are warm, friendly, and welcoming.

Other reasons include their political stability (they haven’t had an army since the 1940s, instead spending the money on education and health care), high literacy (95%) and good health care. English is widely spoken, and you don’t need to change your money – credit cards and US dollars are widely accepted. Electric appliances don’t need adapters and they drive on the right side of the road.

Many of our buyers want to take some portion of their assets and invest outside of the US, in a non-leveraged country.

There’s no Paradise, no perfection – whether it’s the US or Costa Rica or Bora Bora. Come talk with The Simms Team and we can discuss the pros and cons of buying, visiting or living in Costa Rica.

Why Costa Rica? from our perspective

Beach at Playa Bejuco

Beach at Playa Bejuco

The Simms Team has started helping clients purchase properties in Costa Rica.  Why?

Sales of homes and condos here in Tampa Bay have slowed down, often because the prospective purchaser hasn’t been able to sell their existing home. Purchasers of second homes or vacation properties often don’t need to sell a home – they are often taking money from alternative investments – the stock market or an IRA, for example.  We are already representing buyers Read the rest of this entry »
