Grand Prix days in St Petersburg Florida

Grand Prix St PetersburgThe Grand Prix races are taking place in downtown St Petersburg, along city streets and an airport runway, adjacent to the beautiful waterfront. This is the weekend that downtown condo dwellers wither invite their friends to party and watch the races or leave town to avoid the noise. Temporary docks are set up for yachts, and there’s an area for RVs as well. It’s picture perfect weather, as all the tv viewers up north will notice.

Grand Prix of St Petersburg races this weekend

Some of the downtown St Petersburg streets are already prepared with concrete barriers and high chain link fences. The course loops between the St Petersburg Yacht Club and Albert Whitted Airport, with parts of the race running along the waterfront.

Parking will be scarce, so perhaps you’ll want to park at Tropicana Field and take a free trolley to the race. All downtown trolleys (stopping at various hotels, museums and attractions as well as the races) are free this weekend.  Enjoy the ride on The Looper.

Parties are scheduled all weekend, during the races, after the races, even before the races. Bayfront Tower condominiums is adjacent to one of the race streets, so many residents plan parties and watch the action from their balconies just above the track. Others flee for the weekend, avoiding the noise and the crowds.

Perhaps the coolest place to watch the races is from a luxury yacht moored Monaco-style in the South Yacht Basin on floating docks arranged just for the occasion.
