You can meet Dale Chihuly in downtown St Petersburg tomorrow, Sunday May 8, 2011, at the Morean Art Center’s The Chihuly Collection at 400 Beach Drive NE.  From 1 – 2 pm Chihuly will be signing the official Chihuly Collection catalog that has recently been released. Over 100,000 people have visited the Chihuly Collection since it opened in downtown St Pete last July. Commemorate your visit with this $16 catalogue, dedicated to the people of  St Petersburg. It showcases the collection here on Beach Drive and also gives a history and description of all the dedication and hard work by the Morean Arts Center, Dale Chihuly and architect Alberto Alfonso.

The official Chihuly Collection presented by the Morean Arts Center publication has arrived! Dedicated to the people of St. Petersburg, this catalog showcases the Collection on Beach Drive as well as a history and description of all the hard work and dedication that went into the final product by the Morean Arts Center, Dale Chihuly and Architect Alberto Alfonso.

Then walk around the corner onto Fourth Avenue NE and visit the brand new shop, The Gift Box. The owners, Linda Albrecht (Image Creations of Florida) and Judy Bailey (Brandy’s Interiors) have gathered an interesting collection of gifts from under $10 to over $500.

Paint Your Shoes and help Morean Arts Center – Chihuly style

Paint Your Shoes at Morean Arts Center

Paint Your Shoes at Morean Arts Center

Paint your shoes and help Morean Arts Center in St Petersburg by attending one of their Paint Your Shoes sessions:

  • Saturday, May 22  10-3
  • Thursday, May 27  5-7

On July 11th the Morean Arts Center will open The Chihuly Collection on Beach Drive.  The suggested donation for attending one of the above paint sessions is $5.

Why paint your shoes?  What does this have to do with Chihuly?  Chihuly is known for his glass work, but he also does splatter painting, which generally results in his shoes always being splattered.

What a great time to show your creativity. Bring in a pair of shoes, from sneakers to high heels, or even Cowboy Boots and use acrylic paints to show your style.   Read Chihuly, Shoe-huly.
